What is Rocky Mountain DataCon?
AgilData is excited to announce Rocky Mountain DataCon 2016 (RMDC), Colorado’s first annual conference focused on data engineering, data devops, and data science. Sponsored by AgilData, Adurant, and the Boulder/Denver Big Data Users Group, the conference will bring speakers from across the industry, with a focus on use cases and best practices. We strive to create a vendor-neutral environment where attendees can share ideas and hard-won experience with each other to further our craft.
When is RMDC 2016?
Rocky Mountain DataCon will take place on November 10-11, 2016, at the Denver Marriott Westminster in Colorado. Each day will start around 8am and will conclude at 5pm. Breakfast, lunch and coffee/beverages will be provided throughout both days. Accommodations are also available at the Marriott Westminster hotel for ease of attending this event.
This two-day conference will be packed with speakers sharing information on two different tracks:
- Technical Talks Training and Use Cases in Big Data
- Big Data Community Innovation and Ecosystem Talks

Michael “Monty” Widenius
Creator of MySQL and MariaDB
Michael “Monty” Widenius is the creator and main author of MySQL and MariaDB. He is also the founder of Open Ocean Capital, an investment company in Finland. He is also part of creating the Hacking Business model and the Business Source Licence.
Chief Application Architect at MapR
Ted Dunning is Chief Application Architect at MapR Technologies and is very active with the Apache Software Foundation, particularly with respect to streaming technologies. He a committer and PMC member for a number of projects and was the incubation mentor for Apache Storm, Apache Flink, Apache Apex and numerous others. He has also developed important machine learning and recommendation technology and holds over 20 patents.
Senior Software Engineer at Twitter
Lisa is a member of the team responsible for building streaming data products at Twitter, including the Powertrack Streaming API. Prior to joining Twitter in 2014, Lisa was a software engineer at ExactTarget, where she architected and developed APIs. Earlier, she designed custom software implementation solutions for Enterprise clients at ExactTarget. She will be speaking about Twitter’s Power Track architecture that solves technical challenges such as: filtering data at scale in realtime and managing state of customer streams across data centers.
Chief Technology Officer at Altitude Digital
As the CTO of Altitude Digital, Manny has driven the strategy and vision behind the industry’s first premium programmatic platform, designed to bring more efficiency, simplicity and control to both buyers and publishers. In this session, he will discuss how we do this accurately and effectively by leveraging a data pipeline built using Hadoop, Kafka, Cascading, Oozie, Druid, and a custom ETL process. By the end of this session, you’ll understand the benefits of layering these technologies, and how you can apply the same process in order to transform your businesses.
Chief Product Officer at Clickfox
As the Chief Product Officer of ClickFox, Al Mays is responsible for the strategy, design and development direction for ClickFox products focused on enabling the construction and study of Journeys. During his eight-year tenure at ClickFox, he has also held several management positions in information architecture and pre-sales solutions architecture. Prior to joining ClickFox, Mays spent seven years at Ticketmaster where he held various positions including the Director of Voice Applications where he set strategy and lead development, infrastructure and managed day-to-day operations of their complex voice self-service platforms
